Known for being the most photographed tree of all time, the Lone Cypress sits perched atop this rock at sea. The Lone Cypress has only one source of water, the irrigation system that was put in place to water it in the early 1960s. Pedestrians are not permitted to climb or carve the tree. There is even a sniper in charge of offing birds that fly near it. On a clear day you can see some of the deceased birds washing to shore after courageously attempting to mount the mighty limbs. As I stood reading the mile marker that described the great Lone Cypress a man graciously told me of a time many years ago when he and his boyhood friends approached the arboreal icon. The man was in his late 70s and like many men of his age... was obviously lying. In my humble opinion, this tree is one of the finest in America.
